About Better Focus®
Better Focus® began with one German filmmaker who wanted his photo lenses to work smoothly with a follow focus.

Founder
Tim is a filmmaker based in Germany. When he could not find follow focus gears that fit his photo lenses properly, he started designing his own.
Each gear is a flexible ring made for the focus ring of one specific lens. It sits flush, with no overlap, and needs no glue and no heat. It works with any follow focus system that drives a Mod 0.8 gear.

Joe Peters co-founded Six12 Printing in Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, which runs Better Focus’s US warehouse and handles fulfillment for every US order.
His team stores, packs and ships your gear locally, so orders ship out fast and arrive quickly anywhere in the US.

Team
Jakob works with Tim in our German team. He helps with fit questions and orders and answers your emails side by side with Tim, so you get a real person who knows the gears.
Ask Jakob and Tim →Our story
After searching Europe for a follow focus gear he liked, Tim began experimenting on his own. The result was a flexible ring that matches a lens exactly and can be pulled on by hand in a few seconds.
The first gears were 3D printed. As orders grew, production moved to injection molding, which gives a cleaner fit and a noticeably higher quality.
In 2020 “Better Focus” became a registered trademark, standing for precisely fitting tools made by a filmmaker.
Many orders came from the US, so in 2022 we opened this shop with a warehouse partner in Texas. US orders now ship locally, arrive faster and come with a US invoice. Tim and Jakob from our German team still answer your emails.
Send us the name of your lens and we will point you to the right gear.
