Nikon lenses are a favorite for cinematography on a budget. The old Nikkor AI and AI-S primes are built like tanks and give a smooth, well-damped focus throw, which makes them popular for adapted video work. Newer AF-S and Z-mount lenses can be geared up as well. We list gears across all of these generations, matched to the individual lens rather than to the brand.
Compact AI-S primes have small rings. The Nikon 24mm f/2 AI-S needs a gear for a 2.36–2.44 in (60–62 mm) focus ring, and the Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 needs 2.48–2.56 in (63–65 mm). Autofocus lenses run larger: the AF-S 50mm f/1.4G is 2.83–2.91 in (72–74 mm), and the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is 3.31–3.39 in (84–86 mm) on both focus and zoom rings.
Every gear has Mod 0.8 teeth for standard follow focus units and wireless systems. We ship from Texas in 3–5 days, shipping is free in the US from $60, and returns are accepted within 14 days.

A follow focus gear adds a toothed ring to the focus or zoom ring of your photo lens. A follow focus, wireless motor or lens servo can then turn the lens smoothly, the way you would on a cine lens.
